This Data Retention Policy explains how long StarNestSocial retains different types of data, what happens when you delete your account, and your options for data export and deletion.
Overview
StarNestSocial retains personal data only as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or anonymized.
Data Minimization: We collect only the data necessary to operate our platform and provide you with the best experience.
Account & Profile Data
Account Information
Email, username, password hash, date of birth
Retained while your account is active. Deleted 90 days after account closure.
Profile Data
Display name, bio, avatar, privacy settings
Retained while your account is active. Deleted 90 days after account closure.
Authentication Tokens
Session tokens, refresh tokens
Access tokens expire after 1 hour. Refresh tokens expire after 30 days or on logout.
Content Data
Posts & Media
Text posts, images, videos, gallery shares
Permanently deleted immediately when you delete a post or 90 days after account closure.
Comments
Comments on posts
Deleted when you delete the comment or 90 days after account closure.
Messaging Data
Active Messages
Text, media, voice messages, reactions
Retained until you delete them or 90 days after account closure.
Deleted Messages
Soft-deleted messages
Soft-deleted for legal/safety purposes, then permanently deleted.
Live Streaming Data
Stream Metadata
Title, description, duration, viewer count
Deleted 30 days after stream ends, or immediately after account closure.
Stream Recordings
Temporary cache for replay
Temporarily cached, then deleted unless flagged for investigation.
Financial Data
ESC Transactions
Earnings, balance history
Retained for 7 years for tax and accounting compliance (IRS requirement).
Payout Records
Payout records, Stripe data
Retained for 7 years for tax and financial compliance.
Ad Interaction Data
Ad views, clicks, revenue calculations
Retained for revenue auditing and dispute resolution.
Security & Fraud Data
Device Fingerprints
Browser/device identifiers for fraud detection
Deleted 2 years after last activity or account closure.
IP Addresses & Login Logs
IP addresses, login timestamps, geographic data
Retained for security investigations and fraud detection.
Moderation & Reports
Content Reports
User-submitted reports, evidence, outcomes
Retained for moderation history and legal compliance.
Account Warnings/Bans
Warning history, suspensions, ban records
Retained to enforce repeat offender policies.
Account Deletion
When you request account deletion:
- Immediate: Account is deactivated and hidden from public view
- 30 days: Grace period to cancel deletion
- 90 days: Most personal data permanently deleted
- Exceptions: Financial records (7 years), fraud data (2 years), legal holds
⚠️ Data That Cannot Be Deleted Early
Some data is retained beyond your deletion request due to legal requirements:
- Financial/tax records (IRS requirement: 7 years)
- Fraud investigation data (if flagged)
- Data subject to legal hold or ongoing disputes
- Anonymized analytics (cannot be traced to you)
